Sex And The City 3: Hats by Sherels.com
Sex And The City 3: Ladies Hats, Cocktail Hats, and Facinators by Sherel's Hats:
Almost two decades after emerging as a newspaper column - inspiring books, 94 TV episodes and subsequent films - Candace Bushnell's Sex in the City remains a hot topic.
Rumours were rife after the second film launched last year that another was on the cards and now it has emerged that SATC 3 will go ahead - with a new cast featuring some of Hollywood's hottest talents.
Taking form as a prequel the proposed project will be based on Bushnell's two novels, The Carrie Diaries and Summer And The City (published this year) which track the four individuals in their teenage years and early twenties before they become a united female front in New York.
In an interview with WWD, creator Bushnell, 52, explained that the prequels lay the foundation for what each character will become.
She said: 'Every character has a back-story - what the reader sees, in a sense, is the tip of the iceberg. The characters don't exist in a vacuum - when we first meet them... in their Thirties and single in New York - they are, in a sense, in the middle of their stories. Which is what makes the Carrie Diaries series so satisfying.
'We see different sides of the characters, which make them much more complex and interesting.'
Ms Bushnell told how the story had moved on from her first prequel, which sees Carrie as a teenager in the Midwest. 'She has more confidence; now that she's finally away from home, she can discover and explore new parts of herself,' she revealed.
Ms Bushnell started Sex And The City as a newspaper column, before turning it into the book that inspired the Nineties television series. Two follow-up movies have since followed, to mixed reviews.
Now the series and film producer Michael Patrick King is hoping to turn the prequels into a movie franchise.
The news will also come as a shock to Kristin Davis, who played the naive, perfectionist Charlotte York. She expressed her distaste at the idea telling E! this February: 'We've discussed our history in the show already so for all of our fervent fans who listen to what we say, why would we rewrite that?
'And then have like different people with our names? It's kind of freaky.'

SATC 3: NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
SAMANTHA
WHO: Blake Lively, 23 - made her name in Gossip Girl BACKGROUND: Originally in a long-term relationship before going on the rampage, steady Samantha looks after a young Carrie when she first arrives in New York, showing her the ropes THE LOOK: Think Eighties power dressing, shoulder pads and big hair
CHARLOTTE
WHO: Selena Gomez, 19 - Disney star and girlfriend of Justni Bieber BACKGROUND: Barely featured in the prequel books although she is sure to appear more frequently in the films, author Candace said of Selena: 'She’d make a really good young Charlotte’ THE LOOK: Good girl, fresh- faced
MIRANDA
WHO: Emma Roberts, 20 - niece of Julia, starred in Scream 4 BACKGROUND: Politically minded Miranda meets Carrie while she is protesting outside department store Barneys. The young Miss Bradshaw is on a shopping spree... Cue differences of opinion THE LOOK: Think lobbyist, student grunge
CARRIE
WHO: Elizabeth Olsen, 22 - younger sister of twins Ashley and Mary-Kate BACKGROUND: Originally from the Midwest, a young Miss Bradshaw travels to New York as an aspiring writer - minus the Manolos, the girlfriends and tangled romances THE LOOK: Already noticed for her individual sense of style, expect the usual combos
It is rumoured that current preferences for the roles are Blake Lively as Samantha Jones, Selena Gomez as Charlotte York, Emma Roberts as Miranda Hobbes and Elizabeth Olsen as Carrie Bradshaw.
The news will come as a blow to many who hoped the characters would be played by the original cast or that a third movie would follow on from the second which ended with Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie and Chris Noth's Mr Big reconciling their differences after their marriage was threatened by an intervention by Carrie's former lover Aidan.
Even Sarah Jessica Parker who produced and starred in the two Michael Patrick King creations appeared averse to the idea earlier in this year.
When reports emerged that younger replacements were being considered for the prequel she said that she didn't feel that the film should be based on the same SATC characters especially as the some of the back-stories had already been covered in the TV series and movies.'I don't think we can pretend to go back... It's creating two histories. It's like, 'Oh I didn't know that about Carrie Bradshaw.'' She told the Los Angeles Times.
One fan, Clarity agreed Blogging: 'The prequel would suck. I don't want to see youngsters playing these characters that we've all grown up with. Let the ladies continue their journey filled with surprises.'
